On September 16, 2015, residents on Esgore Drive were given violation notices in regards to basketball and hockey nets being on the public right of way. Residents could be subject to a fine and/or removal of the nets by the City. Ward 16 is green space deficient, there are very few places for local children to play outdoors. I moved a motion at the November Public Works & Infrastructure Committee meeting, requesting City staff to look at changing the bylaw to allow for basketball and hockey nets on the public right of way, in the hopes of creating more opportunities for children to be active. Please see my Motion to Public Works & Infrastructure Committee.
