Mayor’s Tax Levy Proposal

Earlier this month, Mayor Tory proposed a tax levy of .5% to property tax bills starting in 2017. This would be compounded over 5 years, rising to 2.5%. The tax levy is expected to bring $65 million to $70 million annually in extra revenue and would be used specifically for infrastructure needs. I firmly believe that there is still money to be found in efficiencies but with growing transit and housing needs the City of Toronto will be looking for more revenue sources to pay for this much needed infrastructure. As residents of Ward 16, I would like to know where you stand on this issue. Please send me your feedback as this will be a crucial factor in how I decide to vote on this issue.
