Ward 16, Eglinton-Lawrence spans from Yonge Street in the East to Bathurst in the West and from Eglinton in the South to the 401 in the North. It includes approximately 54,000 residents in 21,000 households.
The established north Toronto neighbourhoods that make up Eglinton-Lawrence have a rich history, with most being settled in the early 1800s. Until the early 1900s many of them served as small farming communities. Now, the post-war housing developments, avenues, and the area around the Yonge-Eglinton centre are all experiencing a period of growth and transition.
While the majority of homes (55%) were built before 1960, Ward 16 features a mixture of cosmopolitan luxury condos, post-war homes and newer custom-built houses. About 60% of residents live in houses, 26% live in apartments or condos under five storeys, 14% live in multi-residential buildings above five storeys and less than 1% live in townhomes.
The desirability to live, work and play here is the catalyst of this change. The Ward is anchored by its vibrant and thriving communities. It also features easy access to the Yonge-Spadina subway, the 401 highway, over two dozen highly-regarded schools, over twenty cultural and religious centres and great local shopping – to name a few.
Residents are fortunate to enjoy the many benefits of living in Ward 16. Most residents enjoy a relatively high quality of life. Residents take great pride in their homes and their communities.
