Last month, the first public consultations were held for the Relief Line project. The Relief Line is the proposed 7.5km subway line that will connect Yonge-University-Spadina (Line 1) downtown to Bloor-Danforth (Line 2). The relief line is a priority for the City as it will help to relieve crowding on Line 1 south of Bloor and provide an alternative transit route for traffic coming in and out of downtown.
Although consultation and planning for these types of major transit projects takes years to complete, we have already begun working with the TTC and Metrolinx to expedite various stages of the planning process. I am also proud to say that under Mayor Tory, we have also secured $9B in new transit funding from the provincial and federal government. This money will contribute to projects like the relief line.
Please see the Relief Line for more details about the different phases of the project and the planning process.
