One of my main objectives since taking office has has been to increase traffic safety in our community. In May 2018, we approved a request to the City’s Transportation Division to move forward with the Traffic Warden Program, where traffic wardens are appointed as special constables under Toronto Police Services and are placed at key intersections and corridors to help enhance operational safety and efficiency. City Council also approved the implementation of the pilot program for Automated Speed Enforcement in school zones, with a larger rollout of the program City wide in 2019.
In addition to this, we have dedicated a grant of $100, 000 to the planning around school safety zones and added over $100,000 in new funding to expedite the implementation of traffic safety measures. I believe that taking these steps will only help us move towards a shared vision of safer streets in Ward 16 and City wide.
